TGMBCo. Us a loosely formed group of pilots who dream of being bush pilots but have a difficult time finding a grass strip. Bush flying is the dream but living in Detroit limits the opportunity. Our aircraft include a Cessna 170, Cessna 172, Stinson 108, and Piper Comanche more planes are on the way. This channel will document our adventures.
Our goal with this channel to to promote general aviation to the public and inspire current pilots to get out and fly more. The number of pilots an participation in general aviation (GA) has been in decline since the mid 1970's. Airports closing, few aircraft being produced, fewer pilots flying. We'd like to be a small part in slowing the decline or maybe even reversing it. Pilot's Paradise: Munising's Hanley Field 5Y7
In early June a few of us spent a weekend in the Upper Peninsula. Flying the UP is different than flying the farm field of the the lower peninsula. There are large forests, more lakes, fewer roads, and of course Lake Superior. This is what brought us to Munising, MI, Lake Superior and the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Arriving at the newly renovated Hanley Field was a joy. This airport has been neglected for a couple of decades and now would make a great hub for people exploring the U.P. with their aircraft. The runway is smooth and long enough for any single engine aircraft I can think of and the community offers everything you need from a rustic get away to a romantic weekend with a loved one. Hanley Field is now the gem of the Upper Peninsula and a place I'll visit again.

The Stinson 108 was out of annual and hadn't flown in a week. It was time to go out and fly. I need to find some friends and was on a mission after a coupe airports I was having fun, but no friends, suddenly family shows up and what was tagged in the beginning to be a mundane day suddenly turns into one I will never forget!

I like the Halo's and use them often, weekly. I really should get another set for the Stinson.
@@GreatMichiganBushCoI actually got myself a pair of clarity alofts and have been using them while instructing for the past week. In one plane it just sounds so much better than my Bose but I think it’s the ICS which is the issue
My plane is in the shop for the upgrades with AV30 and AV20 for backup. Can’t wait to start flying with these instruments! Thank you for the simple and clear review of the instruments. These days it is very rare when a UA-camr goes straight to the point without waiting time. Thank you!!

No, I've been using avgas and properly leaning. I'll get the STC when we fly out west.

If you haven't been to the pictured rocks lake shore it is worth a flight up to the UP.
Took my father in law on a flight out of Hanley in 1979. He’d never been up and was thrilled. Wish I could remember the pilot’s name.
Well go to Hanley Field on the 13th and 14th and relive those days. There's a fly-in and I have a feeling that airport is going to be packed.

@@GreatMichiganBushCo HA, it is great flying here. Hope you visited Mexican Mountain, Mineral Canyon, Happy Canyon, Hidden Splendor as well as Cedar Mountain which has incredible views from the south end over the cliff

@@Bearhawk_Life Idaho might be next years trip. I wanted to fly Utah first to get a feel for high density altitude flying and valleys. I didn't get as much experience as I wanted. We lost two days in Utah to weather and I think after those two days I'd have felt a bit more comfortable. We also missed some of the Utah flying I'd have liked to see. Yet, next year Utah might still be on the calendar.

@@alexmikhael5061 The way back was quick. We took off in the morning flew till 6pm had dinner and spent the night in Cedar Rapids, IA took off in the morning and was back home for lunch.

Maybe next year. We were thinking about Idaho, or maybe Alaska. North East is a place we'd like to visit. Oregon wouldn't be out of the question.

Guess someone needs to go get some more seat time cause all he keeps saying is its bad for the plane.... Which is odd considering if you are a good pilot and can land nicely...grass or asphalt doesnt matter.
I've got plenty of seat time and the more I get the less desire I have to land on asphalt. This has nothing to do with the airplane, but the pilots attitude about flying. Once you get it you get it. A little more time in the seat might help you get it :-)
If it’s so simple then let her fly her way. The way you sound it’s like you’re telling someone how to do your wife.
I guess because you give instruction when someone is in a new type, even if its easy.

Pick away. I am testing at cool temperatures so that helps. As time goes on I am finding that weight is a huge factor and adds up quickly.

Hey Scooter - watch your videos all the time!! I have a Stinson 108-2 that I want to put an AV-30C in and I am confused what inputs the AV-30 needs to have all of those features operable. Are you able to get all of those features (excluding GPS) with just static and pitot tube ports? I want to eventually get the av-link (when it comes out for certified) and run gps and traffic from my Skysensor. Any help would be appreciated! Dusty
I hooked up Pitot/static and an OAT probe. You could add a GPS input. Installation was quick.
So how much for a 108 Stinson with a blown Franklin? 😊😊

Hello I just had a quick question I have never been in a Stinson and I am a little bit claustrophobic and I am not sure if its just camera angle but it seems like there is not very much headroom.
The headroom is limited for some. I sit on a cushion so I can see over the cowl while taxiing. That takes a little headroom away.
I will remember this trip for the rest of my life. Such a privilege to spend it with you guys.

At the moment we wouldn't have guessed it, It was an uncommon failure. The gear that drives the cam broke in two.

Engine failures turn into forced landings, or you could say the forced landing was caused by an engine failure.

Hi scooter. Did you keep the vacuum system for your DG when you got the AV-30? If so was it electrical or Venturi
It's electric. I have the AV-30 so I could get rid of the vacuum system instruments plus pipes was a 8 pound reduction.
